The training band has 20 members aged from 7 upwards. Anyone of any standard or ability is welcome to come along to the training band. Players do not need to be able to read music or have played an instrument before. Complete beginners are welcome as well as those who can already read or play music. Music and instruments are provided to all for a small weekly subscription. The class
meets once a week every Friday evening from 6.30pm - 7.30pm. The
children are taught by Miss Samantha Harrison who also conducts the youth
band. The class is usually divided into groups, depending on ability. Beginners are taught the very basics of how to breath correctly and produce simple notes. Those with a little more experience are able to play in a small ensemble to develop listening and reading skills. The band usually performs 2 or 3 concerts each year for parents and friends and sometimes at local primary schools. Eventually, when a certain standard is reached beginners are encouraged to join the youth band which meets every Saturday morning. If you would like further details about the training band please contact either the bands teacher Samantha Harrison or the band's secretary Kathleen Harrison. New members are always made welcome.
